Position Description

The Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a Postdoc position. Richardson Lab at University of California, Santa Barbara is hiring a postdoctoral scientist to decipher events that occur during DNA repair. This position is funded by the NIH R35 grant, entitled “Defining DNA resection and protein localization changes that occur during DSB repair”. The lab is an interdisciplinary group of graduate students, undergraduates, and permanent staff. We value intellectual curiosity, kindness, and fun. The lab is just over two years old, so we have an exciting portfolio of mature projects in the lab and plenty of energy to develop new research directions.

In this position, the Postdoc will manage projects that investigate DNA repair processes. The primary qualification for the job is open-ended curiosity about how DNA repair works. An ideal candidate for this position must also be well-versed in high throughput sequencing techniques, comfortable running analysis pipelines on large datasets, and capable of identifying DNA repair event signatures within these datasets. You must also be comfortable with other duties, including but not limited to organizing and implementing research plans, managing data collection, development of new methods, and assisting/managing lab staff on collaborative projects. Postdoctoral scientists are expected to publish their research in research journals and present at scientific meetings.

The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service as appropriate to the position.
