Tenure or Tenure-Track Teaching Faculty Position - Department of Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology
The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a tenure or tenure-track faculty position as a Lecturer with (Potential) Security of Employment, with an anticipated start date of July 1, 2019. The Department is looking for exceptional individuals with particular emphasis in the area of undergraduate molecular and cellular biology education.
Responsibilities of teaching faculty include teaching lower and upper division undergraduate courses, mentorship of undergraduate, and potentially graduate students, and participation in university service and professional activities. They will also play a prominent role in biology education research, working with other faculty to develop, implement and assess innovative pedagogical initiatives. Faculty in this title are members of the Academic Senate, with benefits and privileges that parallel the professor track. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in a biology discipline, preferably with postdoctoral training in molecular biology, cell biology, developmental biology, or STEM education research at the time of application. Other preferred qualifications include documented success in some or all of the following areas: teaching large undergraduate classes; use of evidence-based teaching practices; use of modern instructional technology; ability to develop effective teaching strategies for diverse student populations; conducting STEM education research. Successful candidates will have a record of collaborative activity, and will be able to contribute to the improvement of the undergraduate experience in the department and division. The University is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service as appropriate to the position.
