Undergraduate Studies

UCSB's undergraduate offerings in biology are divided into two academic departments: Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology (MCDB), and Ecology, Evolution and Marine Biology (EEMB). Each department offers several specialized majors leading to a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree, and the departments collaborate to offer a general biological sciences major leading to either a BS or a BA degree. Our research and teaching programs cover the full range of biological science from community and ecosystems ecology to molecular biology and biochemistry. Over 150 upper division biology courses are available to our majors. These courses include laboratory and field studies, lectures and seminars, independent studies and group projects.
